Subsequent to graduation from Loyola University College of Law and admission to practice law in Louisiana, Maurice established a bilingual law and notarial practice in the New Orleans Arts District. Maurice advised and advocated for individuals and small businesses in copyright, criminal defense, immigration, tort liabilities, and contractual matters. He litigated criminal and civil cases in state and federal courts as well as conducted pro bono work. Maurice co-chaired oral argument regarding a criminal defendant’s right to a translator before the Supreme Court of Louisiana.
Following the tragic events of 9/11, Maurice pursued a path in national security becoming a special agent with the Diplomatic Security Service, the law enforcement and security arm of the U.S. Department of State.
Serving in a variety of domestic and overseas assignments with increasing responsibility from the Western Hemisphere to Africa and beyond, Maurice managed programs, led teams, and mentored individuals executing security, protective, and investigative operations to provide a secure environment for the conduct of U.S. foreign policy.
With a unique perspective acquired as an attorney, law enforcement officer, and foreign service specialist, Maurice established Brungardt Law, a national security law practice based in Washington, D.C. Utilizing the experience gained from the courtroom to high risk environments, collaboration with a variety of skilled professionals, and engagement with foreign counterparts, Maurice offers a diverse tool set of knowledge, skills, and abilities to address a broad range of issues.
Fluent in Spanish and proficient in German, licensed to practice law in Louisiana and District of Columbia, and employing innovative approaches, Maurice aims to guide individuals and organizations through current and anticipated challenges towards productive outcomes.
